Fantasy Hair Show from Alameda Beauty College

Avalon School of Cosmetology Hosts Fantasy Hair Show in Support of the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence

Avalon School of Cosmetology in Arizona, is celebrating the fantastical world of hair styling with their 9th annual “Fantasy Hair Show”. The show, which showcases some of the most stylish and far out fantasy-based makeup and hair designs created by Avalon students, will be in support of the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Avalon School of Cosmetology’s Fantasy Hair Show will be the 9th in an annual series to highlight the talent demonstrated by its students. Avalon School of Cosmetology teaches its students the skills necessary to achieve classic beauty styles to the latest beauty trends. The Fantasy Hair Show will present the hair and makeup work of students, showcasing their creative imagination, fantastical storytelling, and technical ability.

The Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the recipient of the Fantasy Hair Show’s proceeds, is Arizona’s statewide coalition to stop domestic violence. Formed in 1980, the coalition and its 170 members have worked hard to “enhance the safety of and services for Domestic Violence victims, and reduce the incidence of Domestic Violence in Arizona families.”

The event will be held on Saturday, June 15th at North High School, 1101 E Thomas Road in Phoenix (ZIP 85006). The doors for the show will open at 6:00pm, and the show will begin at 7:00pm. Tickets can be bought in advance for $10 by calling (602) 443-0076 (in Phoenix), or (480) 897-1688 (in Mesa). Alternatively, tickets can be bought at the door for $15.

An Evening with Daniel Hernandez, Jr.

Join us for an evening with an authentic Arizona hero …

When: May 15 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Where: Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Avenue, 85004, Pulliam Auditorium

The Friends of the Phoenix Public Library are honored to present Daniel Hernandez, Jr., perhaps best known as Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ former intern, rising to the occasion when gun shots rang out at the 2011 “Congress on Your Corner” event. His quick thinking and bravery effectively saved Giffords’ life.

He has since co-authored a book with Susan Goldman Rubin for young adults titled “They Call Me a Hero: A Memoir of My Youth” which explores his life, his character and the traits a young person needs to rise above adversity and become a hero like Daniel.

While his heroic acts during the 2011 shooting in Tucson are perhaps his most well-known, Daniel had already accomplished much in his young life and is working to achieve much more.

“Although I humbly deny the title of Hero,” Daniel says, “I am honored to be able to share my story with people in the hope that it will inspire them to overcome whatever obstacles they may have in their life and devote themselves to the service of human kind.”

*Books will be available for purchase, and Daniel will be happy to sign your copy at the conclusion of the program.
